5 technology trends that we’ll see in 2015
18 December 2014
The new year is just around the corner, but what new technology trends will we see in 2015? Here are five of the hottest areas in the technological world that the experts expect to expand over the next 12 months.
1. Wearable technology
2015 will see the release of the Apple Watch along with the continued expansion of the range of wearable Android devices, building on Samsung and Motorola’s offerings.
Google Glass may not be as prominent as it was this time last year, but Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR show face-based technology is far from dead.
2. Internet of Things
The Internet of Things will have a wide-ranging impact as it continues to grow and evolve.
Connected devices will enable everything from homes operated from a single tablet app to more efficient supply chains as firms increase visibility and keep better track of their stock.
3. Context-aware big data
Big data will get smarter, with systems able to understand context and make better predictions.
Verizon expects predictive analytics to reach new levels, giving business leaders unprecedented insight into how their products are being received.
4. Cyber attack insurance
High-profile incidents like the cyber attack on Sony Pictures that led to the studio pulling Kim Jong-un assassination comedy The Interview will prompt firms to take action.
Forrester expects hackers to target 60 per cent of brand-name companies next year, with firms investing in cyber insurance policies worth up to $100 million.
5. Business social networking
LinkedIn is so 2014. Facebook has announced that it will move into social networking for business as it aims to steal market share away from the established network.
On top of this apps like Yammer and Slack are growing in popularity, and it is predicted that spending on online communities will increase by 30 per cent compared to 2014.
