Telesofia Medical is revolutionising self-care

Medical misunderstanding comes at a high cost. Telesofia Medical provides personalised videos that increase patient engagement and understanding.
The economic cost of misunderstanding medical information in England is crudely estimated to be between £2.95bn and £4.92bn per year. Understanding health related information is the key to preventing unfortunate miscommunications as well as increasing patient motivation and compliance with self-care plans. “In England, 42% of working-age adults (aged 16-65 years) are unable to understand or make use of everyday health information, rising to 61% when numeracy skills are also required for comprehension” according to Public Health England and the Institute of Health Equity.
Healthcare is rapidly moving towards self-care. In fact, a typical chronic patient spends only about 1% of their time with health care providers. The majority of their care is provided by a family member or themselves. Even during hospital stays, a patient typically sees a physician or nurse for less than 1 hour per day. Treatments have become significantly more complex with the introduction of self-injectables, multidrug protocols, home-use devices and more.
Patients and their caregivers are expected to follow a variety of very complex instructions. Doctor visits are becoming shorter and often there is insufficient time to explain all procedures and verify understanding. Studies show that short visits also limit the physician’s capability to modify high-risk behaviours, educate for healthy living and prevent diseases. This results in poor health outcomes, excessive admissions, increased morbidity and even death.
Telesofia Medical – turning complex instructions into personalised videos
Telesofia Medical addresses these issues with a unique video communication platform. The award winning platform mitigates all issues of medical misunderstanding often caused by complex documentation or lack of proper guidance. The system automatically creates educational videos for each individual patient, based on clinical data, demographics and personal needs. It can explain anything from simple medication information to complex hospital discharge instructions, or serve as a patient support program for chronic patients. This addresses patients’ most common request of “please show me what to do” in a scalable, standardised yet personalised manner.
The personalised videos can explain anything from simple medication information to complex hospital discharge instructions, or serve as a patient support program for chronic patients. For example, when a physician prescribes a medication, the prescription is automatically converted into a customised video and sent to the patient by SMS or email. The video addresses the patient by name, shows them their physician/pharmacist, the medication, usage demonstration by a model with matching demographics, and more. Knowledge leads to prevention
Knowledge is a significant factor in disease prevention. Armed with the right information, people can be more proactive about disease screenings, healthy lifestyle, vaccinations and more.
Telesofia Medical, with the support of The Bird Foundation, has developed a groundbreaking video calculator. This calculator helps people understand their “heart age” – a simple way to explain their cardiovascular risk. By answering a simple, 8 questions online form, the user receives a short personalised video explaining their own heart age.
The video explains the implications and encourages the viewer to play an active role in mitigating any identified risks with easy tips for better heart health. Telesofia will roll out videos educating on weight, blood pressure, physical activity and other wellness topics. You can try the “Heart Age” calculator now and sign up for updates on new videos from Telesofia Medical.
The goal: making medical information clear
Dr Rami Cohen, CEO and Founder of Telesofia Medical, together with a team of internet veterans and health care providers, created the video platform after encountering countless patients who were not following treatment guidelines.
“Even as a physician, when I was sick and tried to read a medication leaflet, I got confused – so how can someone with no medical training be expected to understand them?” Cohen’s mission is to make medical information clear across the globe. “These unfortunate errors and lack of adherence can so easily be corrected by showing patients exactly what to do while speaking in simple, accessible terms. We want to take the load off of healthcare providers while empowering patients with the best self-care possible.”
