Banking: Modernising Payments Technology

8:00 AM - 10:30 AM
Le Royal Hotels & Resorts - Luxembourg

How can banks transform their payment technology to remain competitive in an ever evolving market?

Instant payments are gaining momentum in Europe as people look for convenient ways to send and receive money quickly. For banks, this means new revenue opportunities, predictability, and more streamlined operations. However, pan-European adoption has been slow for several reasons, including an absence of corporate use-cases, cost, and a lack of interoperability between domestic schemes.

However, new regulation by the European Council and Parliament is forcing change in this area. When these new proposals are implemented, payment service providers will have to offer the ability to send and receive instant payments in Euros, and to do so at no extra cost.

This new legislative requirement will force change on the banking industry. So it makes sense for banks to look more widely across their payments technology and to take the opportunity to modernise their payments services.

Modernisation offers many significant advantages including streamlined operations and IT, more robust fraud and risk management, enhanced customer satisfaction and  product innovation enablement. The new regulations, therefore, represent an opportunity for banks to go beyond the immediate changes required and transform their payments systems, from end to end.

Join us in this discussion of modernising payments in Europe.

The topics we will explore

During the meeting we will focus on questions such as:

  • What are the opportunities and innovative usecases that leverage instant payments capabilities?
  • Why have European banks been slow to modernise payments, and how can the obstacles to modernisation be addressed?
  • What are the new EC requirements around instant payments and the approaches to achieve compliance?
